Serena Zena Mak Walk (she/her) is an emerging artist and curator based in Canada. Her multidisciplinary practice delves into the lived experiences and cultural narratives of the Asian diaspora. Central to her work are themes of Eco- and Asian- futurism. Her practice blends the tangible and the intangible, ranging from textiles to extended-reality. Her work is known for its bold use of color and texture, often drawing on organic forms.
Serena received her BFA from McMaster University’s Studio Art program. Since then she has been dedicated to developing her practice through exhibition, curation, and research-creation. She plays a central role in the research project the Sari-Sari Xchange, currently curating a series of four shows at Centre[3] for Artistic + Social Practice. She has collaborated on her research-creation with the McMaster Museum of Art and the Art Gallery of Hamilton, recently presenting her findings at The Universities Art Association of Canada Conference. Her upcoming solo show at Factory Media Centre blends traditional ceramic and textiles with new media.
When she’s not in the studio, Serena enjoys illustrating and animating a character called Beuford the Pigeon in a collaborative project with her partner.
