In several afternoon tea sessions with my grandma, sister, and mom, I listened to the stories of my grandmother’s childhood in China during the occupation. Using context clues, I traced the locations my grandma would have traveled to as she escaped up the Dong River into the mountains. Using data from google maps, I 3D printed the topography of these locations, creating a grid of disjointed land. She traveled all throughout Europe, and eventually landed in Canada. This piece reflects upon the journey so many immigrants make over land and sea.

This work has been displayed at 401 Richmond in Toronto, Ontario for the Sari-Sari Xchange x reel asian symposium, as well as Mcmaster University and Orchid Contemporary.
